The latest generation of the MDR – Micro Dynamic Rifle now has the ” X ” in its name: MDR x .

The MDR x has been available since spring 2020, all current orders will be delivered in this new version.

The challenge was to develop a weapon system that would meet many mission requirements at the same time: precision even at medium and long ranges as well as superior firepower and mobility in a confined space. It can be operated completely from both sides and with the option of enabling quick and precise caliber changes.

DesertTech also opted for the proven bullpup design for the MDR x in order to be able to build the weapon in a particularly compact manner. Due to the system-related longer barrels and despite the very short overall length of 65.55 cm (!), the weapon retains its precision even at longer distances.

Due to the outstanding handling, the weapon is also ideally suited for tracking or catch shots with the long gun!

A particularly important feature: The gas extraction can be set to 6 positions, e.g. for use with a silencer!

The trigger system has been improved once again on the MDR x and behaves like a normal, even trigger. The use of improved, high-impact polymer for the body parts resulted in a significant reduction in overall weight. The MDR x is   slightly rear-heavy. During longer holding phases (e.g. driven hunts) this is a significant relief for the guide arm, as most of the weight is very close to the body . The entire movement dynamics of the guide arm can take place almost without additional weight.

The most important point, however, is that the weapon was completely ” ambidextrous ” from the start, i.e. designed for use by both left- and right-handed people:

Safety, cocking and magazine release levers can be operated from both sides. The slide catch is ergonomically positioned directly behind the magazine well, so that after a quick magazine change, the slide can be closed again intuitively in one flowing movement!

A lateral, patented pressure relief safety device in the aluminum frame above the cartridge chamber reliably ensures a high level of safety if the rifle is not running freely.

Another special feature is the case ejection, which is directed towards the front. The ejection opening has a dust protection cover made of sheet metal with an integrated ejection tube. After the shot has been fired, the ejector presses the empty case against the dust cover, while the bolt, which snaps forward again, pushes it forward out of the ejection tube. The MDR x  can therefore be fired from any possible position by right- and left-handed shooters. Dynamic shoulder changes are possible without restrictions or previous modifications! Loading jams or malfunctions due to blocked ejection openings have been technically ruled out.

The case ejection can also be reliably converted from right-hand to left-hand ejection in just a few seconds without having to change the breech or housing. The covers on both sides can also be easily removed for direct access to the cartridge chamber, which is often not possible with other forward-ejecting bull pup designs.

The MDR x also follows the proven DesertTech Multi-Caliber principle. A caliber change is done in less than a minute, analogous to the SRS or HTI, although in the case of the MDR only two retaining screws have to be tightened.
